Let’s Whip Senators Today

You can report back on this post. We need to know how it goes. We, as a group have helped to bring together Democrats.com, Bold Progressives and together have sent 75,000 signers to Congress in support of breaking up the banks. We are absolutely making this happen.

Not sure if you heard this already — some are saying that Dodd isn’t even going to allow an up or down vote on the break up the banks amendment, and if the break up the banks amendment is going to get a vote, its in the next 10 days. No vote on the most significant, adequately direct amendment to solving too big to fail? Just as it is gaining steam and has a real chance…and NYTimes endorses breaking up the banks!

So its very helpful if you can pressure your Senators now, use this easy tool – they basically think no one will notice if they scuttle this under the table– and tell them that a financial reform bill without Brown/Kaufman is not worth much, and that its the most important amendment, and we need a vote on it!

Anjon, an ANWFer from DC, called Senators Baucus, Burris, Brown (R-MA), Carper, Murray, Shaheen, Stabenow, and Webb in an effort to set up lobby meetings. Who can you call?

Everything helps right now, and the reason they don’t want an up or down vote is they are worried that Senators might actually be coming on board–which
they will if they feel enough pressure.

Breaking up the banks happens to be a real possibility, the #2 seat in the Senate, Dick Durbin has come out for the SAFE Banking Act and Harry Reid and the GOP think amendments should only need 51 votes to pass — The big banks wield too much power and have captured regulators and legislators — please help make it possible!
Only chance we got to break it up! Don’t you want to have done something to the big corporations in your life? Every call counts, will you make yours?

Thanks, and please report back good and bad news–we want to hear it all!

Spoke with Sen. Cantwell’s office. They continue to say she hasn’t decided if she supports the B-K amendment but they’ll let her know I support it. The staffer also says Sen Reid will be deciding soon which amendments will get to a vote. Also left a message on Sen. Murray’s voicemail and will try to call them back today.

Last week called Chuck Schumer & Kristin Gillibrand from NY. Interesting that one can not even get thru’ to Schumer on his DC line, so had to call NYC line. DC System automatically hangs up after so many rings. Today I sent an email to Gillibrand. But it was impossible to even access Schumer’s email! The link would not allow it! So I called. Again, automatic hang up. Constituents just can’t get through. Height of arrogance and indifference.
